A collaborative science project between Ocean Numerical, New Zealand Defence Force, Defence Technology Agency and MetService. The Campbell Island Wave Buoy is located at 52° 45.71' S, 169° 02.54' E, and is the worlds southernmost open-ocean moored wave buoy. The measured data are freely available for use; download the data from Deployment 3 here and visualise it here.


Deployment 1

A TRIAXYS™ directional wave buoy deployed by HMNZS OTAGO on 8 February 2017. Moored until 28 July 2017, the maximum wave height measured was 19.4 m on 20 May 2017.



Deployment 2

A TRIAXYS™ directional wave buoy deployed by HMNZS WELLINGTON on 2 March 2018. Collected data until 27 July 2019, the maximum wave height measured was 23.8 m on 9 May 2018.



Deployment 3

A TRIAXYS™ directional wave buoy deployed by HMNZS CANTERBURY on 23 November 2018. This buoy is currently transmitting.
